In Western herbalism nettle leaf and oatstraw have been used in a tea to give people more energy and better assimilate iron. It is a source of easy to assimilate calcium. Restless Leg Syndrome has been alleviated just by drinking nettle tea regularly. This combination is just one of the remedies used to rejuvenate the thyroid in the curanderismo tradition. It is good to steep the tea made from this for several hours to get the maximum benefit. As it can be diuretic do not drink more than a couple of cups a day but not in the evening.
The curandera I learned from said to change the remedies for low-thyroid every three days. You might also consider using these herbs for three days at a time: Damiana capsules, black walnut capsules. My experience is that diet is very important to recover thyroid health. For low-thyroid the curanderismo tradition says to avoid cruciferous vegetables; broccoli, spinach, cauliflower and cabbage. These further depress the thyroid.
