Shatavari is widely recommended in Ayurveda. Ayurvedic texts like the Charak Samhita, Susruta Samhita, and Astanga Samgraha, show its ancient use as early as Vedic Time (4000 years ago.) Shatavari is highly appreciated in Ayurveda, due to its potential to maintain health, not only menopausal health, but health during all stages of a woman’s life. Ayurvedic texts say that shatavari strengthens a woman to the point where she is capable of producing thousands of healthy ova.
Shatavari has its highest use among menopausal women who suffer from low estrogen levels. Menopausal symptoms are relieved with this plant. A study performed in several Ayurvedic centers in the United States and in Nepal by Shrestha et. al. in 2003, showed the effect of estrogenic activity of Shatavari.
Ashwaganda has been shown in studies to provide significant protection against oxidative damage, thereby preventing cancer development. This root is used in Ayurveda to prevent breast cancer. It helps to decrease stress. Ashwagandha is known to improve mental clarity.
Fennel has anti-oxidants that help keep skin looking young. A number of volatile oil compounds like myrcene, fenchone, chavicol, cineole are present in these seeds. It’s antiseptic and diuretic. It’s also very softening and great for wrinkles. This makes it perfect for puffy, oily faces that are starting to get fine lines in the corners of the eyes.
Licorice. Some studies have indicated that licorice root extract may suppress the viral activity of the herpes simplex virus, which causes cold sores. Licorice root has a good reputation as being helpful for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. In one study, licorice gel, applied to the skin, relieved symptoms of itching, swelling, and redness. Another study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology found that licorice was an effective treatment for rosacea, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and drug-induced skin eruptions. Researchers believe its effectiveness comes from its ability to reduce inflammation.
These properties go to work in those with skin rashes and irritations, and also make licorice root extract good for sensitive skin, as it quells any irritation or reactions.
Licorice can help reduce the appearance of age spots and dark areas of hyperpigmentation on skin. It contains an active compound called “glabridin,” which inhibits the enzyme that causes skin to darken in response to sun exposure. A natural skin whitening agent, glabridin helps decrease the production of melanin and rebalance skin cells. Licorice extract may also help diminish dark under-eye circles, and darkened areas caused by scars.
Frankincense Oil
Frankincense is an ancient oil teeming with beauty benefits which has been extensively used for a number of health purposes in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine , from fading scars to fighting premature ageing. Known as the king of essential oils, in ancient times frankincense was considered to be one of the most valuable commodities. For this reason, pure frankincense was often referred to as 'liquid gold' and was a highly prized commodity for trade and commerce.
“Frankincense is great for oily skin and acne as its a natural astringent. It helps regulate sebum and removes excess oil.“Frankincense will soothe and reduce inflammation and can also help prevent acne forming thanks to the boswellic acids it contains which are capable of killing bacteria associated with acne.”
As for its anti-ageing work, Gartner claims it’s “famous for its wrinkle-reducing superpowers…thanks to frankincense’s cytophylactic properties, it stimulates cell regeneration and also protects older cells from free radical damage.”
