Kalmegh has been used in Ayurvedic practice for thousands of years to eliminate virus. Here are recent western studies confirming its use to Herpes Simplex.
"Antiviral properties of ent-labdene diterpenes of (kalmegh), Andrographis paniculata nees, inhibitors of herpes simplex virus type 1." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16372376
"Andrographolide, neoandrographolide and 14-deoxy-11,12-didehydroandrographolide, ent-labdene diterpenes isolated from Andrographis paniculata showed viricidal activity against herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1). None of these compounds exhibited significant cytotoxicity at viricidal concentrations". https://www.researchgate.net/publication/7399503_Antiviral_properties_of_Ent-labdene_diterpenes_of_Andrographis_paniculata_Nees_inhibitors_of_herpes_simplex_virus_type_1
Kalmegh (andrographis) boosts the immune system as well as exhibits antiviral activity against HSV-1. A study conducted in 2005, showed that A.paniculata has viricidal activities against HSV-1 and interferes with reproduction of the virus. Another study conducted in 2011, confirmed the herb’s inhibitory effects on replication of the virus and also found inhibitory effects on viral entry to the cell.
The effect is increased when is taken in combination with echinacea .The anti-viral properties of echinacea are believed to be caused in part by the inhibition of the enzyme hyaluronidase, thereby strengthening resistance to viral infection. An in vitro study, an herbal supplement containing echinacea and benzalkonium chloride, the echinacea phytochemicals demonstrated antiviral activity against both acyclovir-resistant and susceptible strains of HSV-2.
Prunella vulgaris. "A new anti-herpes agent derived from a common herb effectively treats and prevents the disease in animals. Researchers from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia present their data today at the 103rd General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology". https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/05/030520083354.htm
Tincture of Oregon Grape root and Echinacea
Two-ounces organically grown echinacea and Oregon Grape root alcohol extract in a dropper bottle. Extracts of echinacea are known to strengthen the immune system. Studies have shown that it increases the number of white blood cells and boosts the activity of macrophages. More than a dozen studies on the prevention and treatment of virus with echinacea, have found preventive benefits. Though it does not help with bacterial infections, some have found it also helpful for viral meningitis.
Those who have auto-immune disorders, such as multiple sclerosis, should not take echinacea.
Berberine is a bitter-tasting, yellow, plant alkaloid found in the roots of , Oregon grape (Berberis aquifolium), and other herbs. This compound has a long history of medicinal use in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. Berberine containing plants may help promote immune response by increasing the production of antigen specific immunoglobulins, and may also have a direct effect against bacteria and virus.
