Information from western research confirming the Ayurvedic uses of these plants:
Kalmegh is an Ayurvedic plant medicine used for Pitta and Kapha disorders. It contains a rare plant chemical called andrographolide, which has been found to significantly boost the concentration of certain cancer-fighting cells called cytotoxic T lymphocytes. These lymphocytes circulate in your blood stream and attack any cancerous cells that they encounter. Because it has the ability to stimulate their activity, this means that your body becomes better protected against the disease.
In addition, kalmegh increases the amount of other immune-protective chemicals, such as interleukin-2 and gamma-interferon, which help shield your organs against infection and cancer (Immunopharmacol Immunotoxicol. 2007;29(1):81-93).
“Our results suggest that kalmegh leaf extract has more protective action on carbontetrachloride-induced hepatic toxicity than its bitter principle, andrographolide.”http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6513681
“The results of our study suggest that Kalmegh extract protects alcohol-induced toxic-effect in liver tissue.” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6672491
“On the total assessment 80% cases of this series were cured and 20% patients were relieved. Therefore, Kalmegh appears to be a useful remedy for the treatment of infective hepatitis.” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3336768/
“…the present study revealed that the extracts of A. paniculata or S. chirayita offered protection against hepatotoxicity induced by paracetamol.” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21983487
Cat’s claw is considered an immunomodulator, meaning it calms an overactive immune system (reducing inflammation), but at the same time, enhances how well the immune system works. Benefits include potent anti-inflammatory properties and historical use for treatment of arthritis. It is known to increase white blood cell count, including B and T lymphocytes, natural killer (NK) cells, and granulocytes.
Cat’s claw is also known to enhance a specific type of natural killer cell, called CD 57, which is deficient in Lyme disease. Cat’s claw has also demonstrated healing properties for the GI tract.
This is the primary herb for Lyme disease and gastrointestinal restoration. Cat’s claw is antiprotozoal.

Lyme disease, also called borreliosis, is the most common vector-borne disease in the Northern hemisphere. It is caused by the spirochete (corkscrew-shaped) bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and close relatives and mainly spread through the bite of infected ticks. The researchers show that plant extracts from black walnut, cat's claw, sweet wormwood, Mediterranean rockrose, and Chinese skullcap had strong activity against B. burgdorferi, outperforming both tested antibiotics. https://www.frontiersin.org/news/2020/02/21/ethnobotanical-medicine-is-effective-against-the-bacterium-causing-lyme-disease
Licorice is said to be effective in the treatment of neurological disorders such as Bell’s palsy and Lyme disease. It helps in the prevention of the involuntary flow of tears and the development of other neurological symptoms such as paralysis in those patients suffering from Bell’s palsy. For people suffering from Lyme disease, licorice helps slow down the progression of neurological symptoms and give relief from chronic fatigue. It should not be taken by those who have high blood pressure.
The tincture contains Echinacea and Oregon Grape Root. " used mainly to treat diarrhea and parasitic infections caused by bacteria (5). Moreover, a test-tube study revealed that Oregon grape extracts exhibit antimicrobial activity against certain harmful bacteria, fungi, and protozoa. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/oregon-grape#:~:text=It's%20used%20mainly%20to%20treat,%2C%20and%20protozoa%20(%206%20).
Echinacea--"Recent studies have revealed that certain standardized preparations contain potent and selective antiviral and antimicrobial activities. In addition, they display multiple immune-modulatory activities, comprising stimulation of certain immune functions such as phagocytic activity of macrophages and suppression of the proinflammatory responses of epithelial cells to viruses and bacteria, which are manifested as alterations in secretion of various cytokines and chemokines. These immune modulations result from upregulation or downregulation of the relevant genes and their transcription factors. All these bioactivities can be demonstrated at noncytotoxic concentrations of extract and appear to be due to multiple components rather than the individual chemical compounds that characterize Echinacea extracts. Haritaki--From the book, Reversing Chronic Lyme Disease, Haritaki is shown to dissolve the biofilm around the Lyme bacteria.
