Kalmegh has been used in Ayurveda to eliminate virus and fungus for thousands of years. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take Kalmegh (Andrographis) or Licorice. The University of Maryland Medical Center says that one study found that Kalmegh, combined with eleuthero or Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) helped reduce symptoms and shorten the duration of the flu.
"Eleuthero use dates back 2,000 years, according to Chinese medicine records. Referred to as ci wu jia in Chinese medicine, it was used to prevent respiratory tract infections, colds and flu. It was also believed to provide energy and vitality. In Russia, eleuthero was originally used by people in the Siberian Taiga region to increase performance and quality of life and to decrease infections.
A set of unique compounds found in this herb known as eleutherosides can stimulate the immune system. A study found that people who took Eleuthero over a period of 4 weeks had higher levels of T cells than those who did not.
This study demonstrates that Eleuthero can raise the level of certain immune cells that are useful to the immune system defense against common cold and influenza viruses.

Not to be used during pregnancy. Not for use in persons with hypertension, liver disorders, edema, severe kidney insufficiency, low blood potassium, heart disease with edema, or congestive heart failure.
