Western research shows the benefit of these Ayurvedic plant medicines:
Golden Milk
"Curcumin, a natural compound isolated from the rhizome of turmeric, has been shown to have antibacterial properties. It has several physiological effects on bacteria including an apoptosis-like response involving RecA, membrane permeabilization, inhibiting septation, and it can also work synergistically with other antibiotics. The mechanism by which curcumin permeabilizes the bacterial membrane has been unclear. Most bacterial species contain a Mechanosensitive channel of large conductance, MscL, which serves the function of a biological emergency release valve; these large-pore channels open in response to membrane tension from osmotic shifts and, to avoid cell lysis, allow the release of solutes from the cytoplasm. Here we show that the MscL channel underlies the membrane permeabilization by curcumin ..." https://journals.plos.org/plospathogens/article?id=10.1371/journal.ppat.1010198
Kalmegh and Haritaki (andrographis panniculata)
"Based on bioassay guided fractionation, andrographolide was identified as the potent molecule. With the docking analysis, both ICDH (Isocitrate Dehydrogenase) and AAC (Aminoglycoside 2'-N-acetyltransferase) were predicted as targets of andrographolide in M. tuberculosis. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26245695/
"Andrographis paniculata Nees. (Family Acanthaceae) has been widely used in traditional Asian medicines. Its application as an antibacterial,1 antimalarial,2 analgesic,3 and antihepatoxic4 agent has been documented. Additionally, the immune stimulatory properties5,6 of Andrographis paniculata and its efficacy in treating gastrointestinal and upper respiratory tract infections have also been demonstrated.7,8 The broad antimicrobial spectrum of Andrographis paniculata, its ability to clear uncomplicated respiratory tract infections, and its immune modulatory properties9 makes it a potential candidate for testing against Mycobacterium tuberculosis." https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/2156587214553303
Chyvanprash
"A regular intake of chyvanprash strengthens the trachea–bronchial tree and hence improves the immunity and functioning of the respiratory system. It helps to treat respiratory infections, allergic cough, asthma, bronchospasm, rhinitis, seasonal or nonseason respiratory disorders, common cold, and tuberculosis, and thus strengthens the respiratory system. It is also used as an adjunct to antitubercular drugs to augment their bioactivity and prevent their side effects "

"Results Prophylactic benefit of CP against pulmonary pathology was evidenced by the inhibition of inflammatory cytokines (BALF: TNF a, IFN-g, IL-7, IL-6 and lung: TNFa, Histamine and IL-6), chemokines (Lung: MMP-9), inflammatory cell infiltration (cell counts in BALF), and histopatholoy in experimental mice model. Mullein
Mullein has had an intriguing historical association with the genus Mycobacterium. Though to date mullein has not been studied in depth against mycobacteria, antibacterial efficacy against other bacteria has been proven while extracts of other Verbascum species endemic to Turkey have activity against the Mycobacterium smegmatis model ." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2952292/
Self Heal (prunella vulgaris)
"Prunella is taken internally as a medicinal tea in the treatment of fevers,
diarrhoea, sore mouth and throat, internal bleeding, and weaknesses of the liver and heart.
analysis shows it to have an antibacterial action, inhibiting the growth of Pseudomonas, Bacillus, E. coli, and Mycobacterium, which supports its use as an alternative medicine internally," https://www.researchgate.net/publication/325216978_Ethno-botanical_Potential_of_Prunella_vulgaris_and_Human_Health
Licorice root
"Different authors reported the antibacterial action of G. glabra against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Gupta et al., 2008), demonstrating that glabridin is the responsible compound for this activity, instead of hispaglabridin B (Simmler et al., 2013). The antitubercular phenolic compounds were previously identified as licoisoflavone and licochalcone A (Chakotiya, Tanwar, Srivastava, Narula, & Sharma, 2017)". https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7167772/
Tincture
This tincture contains: Cryptoleptis, sida cordifolia and pippali.
"The herbs effective for treating resistant and nonresistant mycobacterium are cryptolepsis, sida, bidens, piperine, artemesia annua, licorice, echinacea and rhodiola. Buhner, Stephen Harrod. Herbal Antibiotics. North Adams, MA. Storey Publishing. 2012
