This is the traditional combination from Ayurveda for Golden Milk. Piper longum enhances the assimibility of turmeric. Using one teaspoon of this mixture in the milk of your choice (you can use nut milk) heating it, and drinking it each night is recommended by Ayurveda to: lubricate the joints, diminish estrogen production, eradicate cancer cells. One half pound container. You can find the recipe to make Golden Milk on the "Recipe" page of this website.
Medical research on turmeric has confirmed the Ayurvedic recommendations for use as an anti-inflammatory, in lubricating the joints, eliminating cancer cells and preventing Alzheimers.
Instead of also respecting the traditional use of this root, Western medicine has made it into a drug and put it in a capsule. “Widespread contamination of curcumin products with a Class-1 residual solvent known as EDC (1,2-dichloroethane) is known. According to the Toxic Substances and Disease Registry of the Department of Health and Human Services, the potential health effects of exposure to the Class-1 solvent at levels above 5 ppm (parts-per-million) include: central nervous system disorders; adverse liver, kidney, and lung effects; and heart failure. Long term effects: probable carcinogen. The problem is so widespread, according to the researchers, curcumin extract with an EDC amount less than 5 ppm is not easily found.”
Turmeric is less expensive and more effective than “curcumin,” using the traditional methods of cooking it into a curry or making Golden Milk.
This study shows that turmeric lowers cholesterol and that a high dose of turmeric works best. Drinking a cup of Golden Milk each night would constitute a high dose. Find this on the Recipe page of this site. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19151449
